Who is the SBDC?
The Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) has been providing small business advice and support to WA small business owners for more than forty years. A WA Government agency governed by an independent Board and led by the Small Business Commissioner, the SBDC exists to help small business owners start well, survive and thrive in business.
What is the Building Industry Business Hotline?
Recognising the significance of the construction sector as Western Australia’s largest small business sector, as well as the unique business challenges for builders, subcontractors, and trades businesses, the SBDC is launching a dedicated telephone advisory line to provide business advice for businesses and subcontractors operating in Western Australia's building industry during the fuel crisis.
The Building Industry Business Hotline has been created in response to the additional input costs for the construction sector stemming from the conflict in the Middle East. It connects your members or audiences to free business expertise and resources from small business specialists as a complement to your organisation’s services.
Free business advisory service
The free advisory line, available on 1300 831 185, will allow builders and construction industry business owners to connect directly with the SBDC’s free business advisory service. They will receive personalised, confidential advice on aspects of their business from our experienced team of advisers on topics including:
- dealing with business disruption
- cashflow management and late payments
- staffing and contractors
- project management and resourcing
- business disputes
- licensing and approvals
- business planning
- and a range of other business matters
Business owners in the construction sector will be able to seek advice via the hotline, or book a free online meeting via the SBDC website.

Free hotline for WA's construction sector — speak to a business adviser today
Western Australia's construction sector is one of the most demanding environments for small business owners. Builders, subcontractors, and trades businesses face a set of pressures - cashflow volatility, late payments, complex contracts, and licensing obligations - that are distinct from those of the broader small business community. Right now, there are additional input costs from the sector stemming from the war in the Middle East.
In recognition of this, the Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC), WA's dedicated State Government business support agency, has launched the Building Industry Business Hotline: a dedicated free telephone advisory line for businesses in the construction sector. The hotline connects callers directly with experienced, WA-based SBDC business advisers who can give callers guidance on business topics relevant to the construction sector, including:
✔ cashflow management and late payments
✔ contract administration and business disputes
✔ staffing and contractor arrangements
✔ project management and resourcing
✔ licensing and regulatory approvals
✔ business planning and long-term strategy
✔ and a range of other business matters relevant to construction operators.
The service is free, confidential, and personalised. Business owners can call without a referral during standard business hours or book a free online appointment through the SBDC website. The hotline is available to sole traders, partnerships, and small to medium businesses across metropolitan and regional WA.
The SBDC has provided free business advisory services to small business owners across WA for more than 40 years. The Building Industry Business Hotline is an extension of that service, designed specifically for the needs of construction sector businesses.
