Opportunities to carry out Government work during COVID-19

Last updated: 28 May 2020

If your business has been impacted by COVID-19, there are a number of opportunities available to carry out work on behalf of state and local governments in Western Australia to help keep your business afloat.

Opportunities with Local Governments

Register your business on the VendorPanel Marketplace to let local government authorities discover your business and the goods and services you can provide. The VendorPanel Marketplace is administered by the WA Local Government Association (WALGA) to provide small and local businesses with an opportunity to engage with and provide quotes for local government authorities.

Once you set up a profile, your business will be visible to buyers from local governments looking for a range of goods and services. You will also be able to receive and respond to request for quotes via the platform.

State Government procurement

From 2 June 2020 until the end of the year, the WA Government has put in place procurement changes for goods and services to support local economic recovery. The new temporary arrangements include:

  • allowing agencies to purchase directly from a local business to the value of $250,000 (increased from the current limit of $50,000)
  • doubling the threshold for public tender processes to $500,000, when at least one local business is involved
  • enabling agencies to obtain written quotations for works between $250,000 and $500,000, instead of tendering, where one or more local businesses can supply
  • allowing agencies to extend government contracts with local businesses for up to two years.

Details of how to contract with the WA Government are available on the website. To be notified of opportunities relevant to your business, register your business on the Tenders WA website and agree to receive email alerts.

Federal Government opportunities

The Australian Department of Defence is seeking expressions of interest from tradespeople interested in carrying out maintenance work (via one of their service delivery partners, Broadspectrum). This work includes air conditioning, building, electrical, plumbing and more. Complete this online form to express your interest or contact for more information.

Opportunities for Indigenous business owners

There are a range of government opportunities for Indigenous business owners. This includes funding via Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) and the chance to register your business if you are capable of providing COVID-19 related products.
