New minimum wage announced

The Fair Work Commission has announced a new minimum wage for Australian workers, effective 1 July 2017.

From this date, the $22.20 per week increase will take the minimum annual wage to $694.90 per week or $36,108 per year.

In cases where employees are not covered by an award or an enterprise agreement, a national minimum wage order provides a safety net of minimum wages and employers must provide their employees with at least these entitlements.

The National Employment Standards (NES) are minimum standards that cannot be overridden by the terms of enterprise agreements or awards.
