SBDC Specialist Business Adviser, Kym Francesconi says Biz Basics is a great starting point for anyone considering going into business, and for the students it’s a great addition to their Diploma of Business (Music) studies.
“It’s one thing to be keen on music, but learning how to make a profitable business out of music involves a whole lot more,” Kym said.
“We cover the basics from assessing the viability of the business to financing, marketing and identifying where your customers will come from.”
CIT Lecturer Russell Torrance accompanied his students who, he said, are predominantly musicians themselves.
Anthony Kay from Darlington is part of a Perth-based band called “Mistrust and the Pollinators” and says self management is the way to go for professional musicians.
“Managing your own band means you have total control over where you play and how often you play,” Anthony said.
“One of our members has a child, so we work around those commitments when accepting the gigs we play – we’re family friendly.”
The free Biz Basic sessions are being held at SBDC, 553 Hay Street, Perth, twice a week, at very convenient times. To book for a session, or for more information, visit: www.smallbusiness.wa.gov.au/workshops or call 131 BIZ (131249).
