Venture capitalists

If you are beyond the start-up phase and have regular sales revenue, systems and procedures, an excellent team of employees, and a plan to eventually sell the business, you could be ready for finance from venture capitalists.

Venture capitalists invest equity finance to finance business growth and aim to get a return on investment as quickly as possible. They are rewarded for their high risk investment with a high rate of return from the capital gain upon sale of the business.

Generally, the venture capitalist becomes a business partner, sharing the risks and rewards and is able to provide strategic, operational, and financial advice to the business.

When selecting a venture capitalist you need to consider:

  • investment preferences;
  • limits in the level of investment;
  • preferred industries;
  • geographical location;
  • future working relationship; and
  • skills and expertise

There are many companies who provide venture capital. Search the Australian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association Limited (AVCAL) website for potential venture capitalists.
