Today is a landmark occasion for small businesses in Western Australia marked by the end of the small business centre network after more than 20 years, and the launch of the new Business Local service.

The SBDC says a big thank you to the many SBC board members, managers and staff for their services to small businesses in WA over many years, and a big welcome to the new Business Local providers.

The State Government has allocated $10.7 million over three years to provide the new Business Local service across all regions of the State. For more information on the service, the providers and their locations, Read more »

SMEs missing the boat on social media

The latest Sensis Social Media Survey reveals that businesses in WA are missing important online opportunities with only 27% of SMEs in WA using social media, many of whom cite a lack of knowledge and direction about how to use it.

These results coincide with SBDC’s State of Small Business surveys that also show time constraints, lack of exposure and understanding, costs association with developing and maintaining digital platforms and access to infrastructure (broadband) are key reasons for the lack of engagement with social media.

The SBDC has regular workshops covering these issues, designed specifically for small business operators. View workshop dates in June and July.
