SBDC encourages Aboriginal businesses to enter national business awards

The Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) is encouraging successful Aboriginal businesses in Western Australia to get their entries ready for the First Australian Business (FAB) Awards before 15 October 2010.

SBDC Acting Managing Director, Jacky Finlayson, says the FAB Awards are a great way to promote your business around the nation.

"This is the first time the FAB Awards have been held, so it’s an opportunity to be recognised and rewarded for your business success," Ms Finlayson said.

The FAB Awards are an initiative by the Australian Indigenous Chamber of Commerce supported by The Australian newspaper, the Australian Government and Industry partners.

Nominations close on the Friday 15 October 2010.

Any business which is at least 50 per cent Indigenous owned, and is registered and operating in Australia can nominate. All nominees must agree to take part in a television program on the awards and be involved in any associated media coverage, to share their stories of success.

Award categories include:

  • First Australians Business Man of the Year
  • First Australians Business Woman of the Year
  • First Australians Young Business Person of the Year ( under 30 years)
  • First Australians Business of the Year
  • Mentor of the Year.

The category winners will receive prize money, valuable publicity and mentoring opportunities as well as the chance to network.

First Australians Business Awards presentations will be held in Sydney on 26 November 2010. Airfares and accommodation will be provided for finalists to attend. There is no fee for nominating.
